OTTAWA: HealthPartners, a Canadian collaboration of 16 of Canada’s most trusted health charities, announced a new partnership with BioTalent Canada today to increase employee engagement options through workplace giving for Canadian biotechnology companies.

BioTalent Canada, the HR partner for Canada’s largest network of biotechnology industry associations, assists its members and partners by performing labour market research and setting out best practices for human resource departments of Canada’s vast bio-economy, 80% of whose companies are small to mid-size employers (SMEs).  This new partnership will broaden the reach of HealthPartners and allow them to offer their engagement services and access to health information as a new enhancement to the HR benefit programs offered by biotech companies and associations across Canada.

Chronic disease is estimated to cost employers over $90 billion dollars annually in treatment and lost productivity. Engaging employees and ensuring they have access to the health information they need helps counteract this cost. In addition, studies have shown highly engaged workgroups are 50% more productive, 33% more profitable, create 56% customer loyalty and have 44% higher retention rates. A recent study also identified employee health and productivity as a key priority for employers in 2016.

“Employee engagement influences productivity and overall job satisfaction,” said Rob Henderson, President and CEO of BioTalent Canada.  “HealthPartners offers an excellent opportunity to improve the HR programs of biotech companies across Canada, bringing awareness to health matters, while allowing Canadians to positively impact their communities and donate to their favourite medical charities. We’re proud to extend their offerings to our stakeholders.”

“87% of Canadians will likely be affected by a chronic disease or major illness such as cancer, heart disease, diabetes and others in their lifetime and 70% of employees want to give health charities,” said Eileen Dooley, CEO HealthPartners. “It is clear, engaging and connecting employees around health through workplace giving has a positive impact for employers and in-turn allows employees to easily give to the health charities of their choice. We are very excited about this new partnership and working with BioTalent Canada to be able to connect the bio-economy to these engagement options.”

As part of the partnership, BioTalent Canada will extend the offering of HealthPartners to its network of 38 corporate partners, which includes organizations like Porter Airlines and Scotiabank as well as four national and 10 provincial biotechnology industry-associations, representing hundreds of biotechnology companies across Canada.
