Sébastien Beaupré

Meet Sébastien Beaupré. Sébastien received a liver transplant following an autoimmune hepatitis.

Sébastien Beaupré was 10 years old when he was diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis, a liver disease in which the body’s autoimmune system attacks the liver. At age 12, he received a liver transplant. “I missed a lot of school because of this disease. When I was little, I refused to talk about it because I felt different from other kids,” recalls Sébastien, now 24 years old.

With maturity came a better understanding and acceptance of the condition. Sébastien also became more willing to talk about it, particularly after discovering the support available from the Canadian Liver Foundation. “Through the Foundation, I learned that there was more than one kind of liver disease and that help was available. I also realized the importance of donations and research. Volunteering is my way of helping,” says Sébastien.

Today, 12 years after his transplant, Sébastien couldn’t be doing better: he lives a normal life, works, goes out with friends and participates in sports. “The drugs for this disease have come a long way in the last 10 years. It’s very encouraging,” continues Sébastien. His story inspires and gives hope to people waiting for an organ transplant.

“My name is Sébastien Beaupré and I am living proof that donating to HealthPartners works.”

“The education and support provided by the Canadian Liver Foundation was invaluable for me and my family. That’s why I volunteer to help raise awareness.”
