Dementia-Friendly Canada Project – Alzheimer Society Canada

A dementia-friendly community is a place where people living with dementia, as well as their care partners and families, feel welcomed, acknowledged and included. Many Alzheimer Societies across Canada have been successful in creating these communities. The Dementia-Friendly Canada project will expand these initiatives across Ontario, B.C., Manitoba and Saskatchewan, and invest in training and outreach programs to enable more communities to support Canadians living with dementia.

This presentation will speak to the Dementia-Friendly Canada project, including: an introduction to the concept of dementia-friendly communities, a review of existing dementia-friendly initiatives in Canada, and an overview of project activities to date and next steps.

Intimacy & Dementia: How Close Can We Get? – Alzheimer Society Canada

This webinar will provide an overview of our understanding of the effect of music on the Alzheimer brain.  Specifically, we will review the existing literature focusing on the cognitive effects of passive music exposure, with a particular focus on familiar music. In addition, we will present data from a recent study involving St. Michael’s Hospital and the Faculty of Music at the University of Toronto that demonstrates the benefits of passive familiar music exposure on cognitive performance and brain connectivity in Alzheimer’s disease.
