Charlotte Comrie came to Heart & Stroke after starting her career as a critical care nurse. While working in coronary care units, she developed a passion for heart health, disease prevention, the treatment of heart disease and cardiac rehabilitation.
She initially worked with Heart & Stroke in PEI as a volunteer CPR instructor. Her interest in heart health led to her joining the Heart & Stroke staff as public education coordinator. In 1986 she was promoted to executive director in PEI, a position she held until 1996. For the next nine years Charlotte worked in leadership roles in a variety of sectors. She returned to Heart & Stroke as CEO in PEI in 2005. In that role she led Heart & Stroke’s advocacy campaign to establish integrated stroke care in PEI and chaired a national Heart & Stroke committee whose goal was the development of a strategic fund development plan. The process of Heart & Stroke’s unification began here.
In 2014, Charlotte became CEO of NS and PEI, leading employee teams in two provinces and working with two provincial boards of directors. She has found this to be challenging and enjoyable. She cherishes this opportunity for continuing personal growth, learning every day and continuing to push the mission of Heart & Stroke forward.
Charlotte has chaired the Rotary Club of Charlottetown, participated on the board of a local art gallery and Big Brothers, Big Sisters. She was a ski patroller for five years, has helped with the Y’s Men Food Drive and the Literacy Alliance, in addition to other short and goal oriented community activities.
